If l were you, l´d tell him truth. If l were you , l wouldn´t spend all my money on clothes NOTE: we can use were in all persons. If l was/  were you ,l´d help her

AFFRMATIVE	I´d (would)organize a cleanup day		I would go to the party. Yo iría a la fiesta.
NEGATIVE	I wouldn´t throw garbage on the streest	We wouldn't spend all the money. No gastaríamos todo el dinero.
QUESTIONS	What would you do to make it a better place	Would he give Patty a diamond ring? ¿Él le daría a Patty un anillo de diamantes?
